NCC

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces, functioning as a voluntary tri-services organization that covers the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Headquartered in New Delhi, India, the NCC was established on July 16, 1948, under the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948. Its primary goal is to develop character, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, the spirit of adventure, and ideals of selfless service among the country’s youth.

Key Structure and Details

  • Motto: “Unity and Discipline” (Ekta aur Anushasan).
  • Wings: Army, Navy, and Air Force.
  • Divisions: Junior Division/Wing (for school students) and Senior Division/Wing (for college and university students).
  • Certificates: Offers ‘A’ Certificate (Junior), and ‘B’ & ‘C’ Certificates (Senior), which provide career preferences in defense services, paramilitary forces, police, and various public sector jobs.

Aiming to create a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth who can provide leadership in all walks of life, Sonarpur Mahavidyalaya has opened its first NCC Unit ( Girls ) from Academic Session 2026-2027.

The NCC Unit is enrolled under 1st Bengal Girls’ Battalion which comes under Kolkata Group ‘C’ Headquarter.

CTO Prof. Tulilekha Sil is in charge of the NCC Unit.
